Jazz Studies Director Antonio García has presented his workshop “Jazz: A Bridge to Better Understanding”"to music educators at state and international conferences. The music and history of jazz provide a ready bridge to your students' exploration of other subjects, including language/speech, history/social studies, math, physics, religion, physical education, and psychology. Civil rights and social justice issues have been constants expressed by jazz musicians. Explore ways you can heighten your students' awareness of the roots of jazz—and in the process, consider grants and activities that can enhance your relationship with and funding from your community.
